Ragas
Using permutations and combinations some 300000 ragas can be devised. Of these scales are available for about 5000 in Karnatic music. Only about 600 ragas are in vogue. Two of the books that deal only with ragas and scales are: Ragapravaham by D.Pattammal and G.N.Dhandapani, and Palaiyazhi by B.M.Sundaram.
